The Gift of Time

God created time (Genesis 1). It is a perishable commodity that we can use any way we want, but once it is gone we can never get it back. It is one of the most important assets that stewards have to manage and is more valuable than money. Wise King David said, "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom" (Psalm 90:12). Numbering our days means being accountable for how we use our time, a God-given talent of which we have a limited supply.

Making a habit of managing our time has not been given the emphasis it deserves (Romans 13:11). I urge you to develop this habit by focusing on what is important in this life and the next. Habits are not engines of our minds running at idle. They are evidence of an active mind at work.

One of the most important habits in managing time is Sabbath observance. Sabbath is a sign of God's power. He transcends time. When we keep that time holy, it shows that we acknowledge Him as the Creator and Owner of all.
